Tricks & Tips

What’s the importance of Engine oil’s number?

So very important, If you choose an engine oil number that is not consistent with your engine’s needs or usage, The function of preventing friction between parts of the engine will be less effective, Including wear and tear. And can make your engine oil deplete very quickly, And effective with acceleration performance and fuel consumption, too.

The SAE (stands for “Society of Automotive Engineers”) is used for the standard of engineering vehicle quality in the United States. It differentiates the engine oil number by 2 sets…

1st number set – Represents the standard of a cold measurement W (Winter) by measuring the waxy. From 20°C to the lowest freezing point of 0°C and the last at further -30°C called “OW” meaning the oil can maintain a clear consistency below -30°C without becoming waxy.

2nd number set – Represents the viscosity level from 100°C. Substitute by numbers. The high-level number means the high viscosity level. This is the engine oil number we’re talking about.

How to choose the engine oil number. First of all, you can assess the service life of your engine. And the usage properties. Example: If you have a new car. You should choose a low-viscosity oil from the two sets of numbers so that the oil can penetrate all parts of the engine. Or if your car works hard for months or years. Then you should choose a high viscosity oil from the 2nd set of numbers to protect the friction of the engine parts.

And for the high quality of engine oil. You can trust IDEMITSU.
